Dancers continually push the boundaries of their physical capabilities in pursuit of excellence within their discipline. This dedication, while inspiring, often comes with an increased risk of strain and injury due to the intensity of training and the cumulative impact on the body. Many dancers aspire to sustain their practice over the long term, with some aiming to transition into professional careers. Unfortunately, injury remains one of the most significant barriers to achieving these goals.

However, many dance-related injuries are preventable through regular, comprehensive assessments and the implementation of individualised training and recovery protocols. Early identification and intervention allow dancers to return to training more efficiently, while reducing the likelihood of long-term setbacks. It is equally important to address any underlying technical factors that may have contributed to the injury, in order to prevent recurrence or further harm.

Just as every individual possesses unique structural and biomechanical characteristics, so too do dancers. Their bodies respond differently to training demands, and as such, their care must be tailored to reflect these differences.

Jessica Beer is trained in identifying and managing these concerns. Being a dancer herself, she has a special interest in helping young dancers reach their potential safely and effectively so they can enjoy their dancing for many years to come.

Meet Your Dance Physiotherapist:

Jessica Beer is the Lead Physiotherapist at PhysioMotion Cairns and has a special interest in Dance Physiotherapy, helping dancers of all ages train, perform and recover with confidence. Combining over seven years of clinical physiotherapy experience with her own background in dance, Jessica understands the unique physical demands placed on a dancer's body and the importance of balancing performance goals with long-term health.

Her approach goes beyond treating injuries. Jessica assesses movement quality, strength, flexibility, balance, technique and training load to identify factors that may contribute to pain or limit performance. Whether you're preparing for your first pointe shoes, returning after an injury or simply looking to improve your resilience and technique, every assessment is tailored to the individual dancer.

Jessica works with recreational, competitive and pre-professional dancers across a range of dance styles. She is passionate about helping young dancers build strong foundations, supporting safe progression through training, and giving dancers and their families confidence that they're making informed decisions about their health and development.
