No, you do not need to see a GP before seeing a Physiotherapist as we are primary contact practitioners.
If you are coming to Physiotherapy for an injury covered by an insurance claim or by Department of Veterans Affairs (DVA) you will need a referral from you GP or Specialist.

At the start of your first consultation, a history will be taken of your current symptoms, past injury history and review of any images you have had. This will be followed by a physical assessment. The physical assessment with involve palpation (touch), movement and observation of the painful/injured area to help your Physiotherapist diagnose the injury/condition. At the end of the physical assessment, your Physiotherapist with discuss with you your diagnosis and what treatment options are available. They will discuss whether you should be referred on for further scans or to see a specialist. If treatment is deemed appropriate by your treating Physiotherapist, and you consent to having treatment, treatment will commence. At the end of the session, you will be given exercises to complete at home and your Physiotherapist will discuss with you if you need to return along with how many sessions you will require.
Each session (initial and subsequent) lasts 30 minutes. We ask that you arrive 10 minutes early for your initial appointment to ensure you have time to fill out appropriate paperwork. We run well to time so we ask that you arrive for all appointments a few minutes early in order to get the most out of your allocated time. We run back to back appointments and if you are running more than 10 minutes late, you may be asked to reschedule your appointment. We don’t want you to miss out on valuable treatment time and we don’t want to offend when asking for full fee for your appointment time.
Assessment and treatment requires viewing the movement and postures of the area of pain along with some adjoining areas so undressing of outer garments is often required. We recommend you wear comfortable clothing such as a shirt, shorts and undergarments (underwear or swimmers) which you will be comfortable being assessed and treated in.
Treatment cost will vary depending on what service you receive ie, Physiotherapy rooms consultation, hydrotherapy, Workplace assessment etc. Please contact our office for further information. If you have private health insurance with Physiotherapy included in your cover, bring your card with you to your appointment. We will swipe your health fund card through our HICAPS machine and claim directly from your health fund on the spot. You then only pay the gap amount.
You must be deemed eligible by your GP to receive funding from Medicare. If you are deemed eligible, you must bring the relevant documentation from your GP to your first appointment.
We do accept Medicare rebated GP plans. We don't bulk bill these sessions although, we do offer a reduced fee. You are required to pay our fee upfront and then receive a $56 rebate back from Medicare which we can process on the spot at reception. In order to receive the rebate for these sessions, you need to have all your paperwork filled out by the GP and bring your referral and Medicare Card to your first appointment.
Yes. You will need to bring all relevant documentation to your appointment including your claim number and a GP referral. If you are under a WorkCover claim, we require a current Doctors medical certificate.
Yes. We can claim straight from your health fund company on HICAPS as long as you bring your health fund card to your appointment.
Physiotherapists use massage as a small component of their treatment if deemed appropriate by your treating therapist during their assessment. Your treating therapist will discuss what treatment options are appropriate for you at each consultation.
